About the role
The Credit Underwriter at Genesis Capital evaluates new lending opportunities and performs comprehensive analysis to determine the creditworthiness of borrowers. This includes assessing the underlying projects (collateral) and conducting financial analyses of the borrower and guarantors. The role involves managing multiple underwriting projects simultaneously, preparing credit memorandums, and working closely with various departments within the company.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate new lending opportunities and assess the creditworthiness of borrowers
- Perform comprehensive financial and market analyses
- Prepare credit memorandums outlining key risks, mitigating factors, and project/borrower/guarantor analysis
- Manage multiple underwriting projects and tasks, including direct borrower interaction and preparation of credit memorandums
- Present credit memorandums to Credit Management for review and approval
- Analyze legal documentation and work with Compliance for AML/KYC purposes
- Collaborate with Loan Officers and Relationship Managers to obtain all required due diligence items
- Work with Genesis departments including sales, loan operations, valuations, accounting, construction, and other support staff
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 3+ years in Commercial Real Estate banking or private real estate lending, preferably in underwriting, credit analysis, or related experience
- Experience in construction lending is a plus
- Knowledge of complex real estate lending and loan structuring
- Industry knowledge of credit and financial analysis fundamentals, including cash flow analysis, balance sheet analysis, tax returns, profitability, liquidity, solvency analysis, and real estate valuation
- Financial modeling techniques and preparation of pro-forma financial statements and NOI/DSCR analysis
- Knowledge of credit underwriting policies, procedures, processes, collateral valuation, and documentation
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database applications for pipeline management
Qualifications
- Strong underwriting experience and judgment
- Ability to consolidate information from many sources to identify risks and articulate recommendations
- Ability to identify potential credit issues and escalate appropriately
- Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, presentation, oral, and written communication skills
Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database applications for pipeline management
