About the Role
As an Analyst, you will assist in the underwriting and monitoring of the Energy Group Portfolio. You will work closely with the Portfolio Manager, who owns the underwriting process for these accounts. While you will not have ownership of client relationships, your primary responsibility will be underwriting, with additional support for business development as needed by the bank group.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Portfolio Manager and Team Manager to monitor and manage the credit quality of the assigned loan portfolio.
- Collaborate with Cathay Bank’s third-party petroleum engineers on new and existing Reserve Based Loans to fully understand all aspects of the engineering evaluation.
- Develop knowledge of Oil and Gas as well as Renewable Energy companies and lending prospects.
- Perform credit underwriting and prepare the Credit Commitment Report (“CCR”) with the Portfolio Manager.
- Conduct credit analysis for client requests, including Borrowing Base Reviews, maturity extensions, and amendments to existing facilities.
- Review client accounts and portfolios to identify, evaluate, and determine appropriate actions on potential credit quality issues to maximize credit quality and minimize risk.
- Ensure compliance with Bank, regulatory, and credit requirements while providing best-in-class customer service and adhering to client timeframes.
- Assist with bank audits.
Requirements
- College graduate with a major in a related field.
- 1-2 years of loan underwriting experience.
- Previous underwriting experience or willingness to be quickly trained.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding (or willingness to learn) of Bank’s credit policy, risk management, underwriting requirements, and loan servicing.
- Strong knowledge and understanding (or willingness to learn) of commercial and specialty group banking products and services.
Skills
- PC proficiency.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Bilingual (English/Mandarin or Cantonese) a plus but not required.
- Ability to work well independently to restructure loans and/or lines of credit.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-production, team environment.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work with deadlines.
- Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for decision-making.
- Effective communication with all levels of Bank personnel.
Pay
$63,000–70,000 per year. Pay is determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
