Creative Video Specialist
About the Role
A highly skilled video storyteller responsible for all aspects of creative video creation, including research and development, producing, interviewing, videography, editing, and distribution for broadcast and social media. This role builds and promotes the reputation of Seattle Public Schools, aligns with the District strategic plan, and furthers SPS’s brand and communication strategies. The position involves collaboration with executive leadership, district staff, students, and community members.
Responsibilities
- Create content independently, including development, research, meetings, and on-camera interviews. Meet with internal clients to develop scripts and production plans, and lead interviews with thoughtful questions (30%).
- Assemble dynamic video content using Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Audition) to produce engaging videos (30%).
- Operate cinema-style cameras (tripods, monopods, handheld) to capture interviews and cover video in classrooms, studios, and the field (25%).
- Upload video files to digital platforms and create closed-captioning files in English and other translated languages (5%).
- Attend divisional meetings and participate in creative teams as needed (5%).
- Live broadcast coverage of School Board meetings, including camera operation, switching, and audio mixing (5%).
- Maintain a digital asset library and organized notes.
- Perform related duties consistent with the scope of the position.
Requirements
- Three (3) years of work experience in a related video communications career.
- AA degree or completion of vocational training in Communications, Broadcasting, or Marketing (Preferred: Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on Communications, Media, Video Production, and Writing, and 5 years of related experience).
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Criminal justice fingerprint and background check clearance.
Skills
- Expertise in video storytelling and editing flow.
- Public sector communications experience.
- High-level communication skills, including interviewing and working with non-camera talent.
- Expert camera operation and leadership in high-level video productions.
- Ability to edit video quickly and translate complex concepts into simple explanations.
- Creative problem-solving and ability to work independently.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition).
- Experience with high-definition video and still cameras, lighting, and audio gear.

Other Factors
- May occasionally work on-location at SPS buildings throughout the district.
- May need to work nights and occasional weekends.
Benefits
Eligibility for benefits is determined by the number of hours worked during the school year (September 1 through August 31). Employees scheduled to work 630 hours or more in a year are eligible for benefits administered by the Washington State Healthcare Authority (HCA) under the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB).
