Key Responsibilities

• Transportation of Medical Items
• Plan and follow the most efficient routes to ensure all deliveries are made on a set schedule or in response to urgent requests.
• Strictly follow safety protocols for handling sensitive or biohazardous materials and temperature-sensitive items, often using specialized containers or temperature-controlled transport.
• Maintain accurate records of all pickups and deliveries, including date, time, location, and recipient signatures, and report any issues or delays to dispatch immediately.
• Conduct routine inspections to ensure the delivery vehicle (which may be company-provided or personal) is clean, well-maintained, and fueled for safe operation.
• Interact with patients, families, and healthcare staff in a courteous and professional manner while maintaining patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
• Certain positions may require the courier to assist with the setup and basic instruction on the usage of home medical equipment for patients.

Qualifications And Skills

• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
• Driving Credentials: A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are non-negotiable.
• Physical Stamina: The role can be physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift and move packages or equipment up to 50 pounds (or more in some cases) and be on your feet for extended periods.
• Core Competencies: Punctuality, reliability, strong time management, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills are essential for success.
• Background Checks: Background checks and a medical exam (in accordance with DOT or other regulations) are standard parts of the hiring process.
• Certifications: While not always required to start, obtaining certifications related to medical handling protocols, biohazard safety (OSHA), and HIPAA compliance can improve employability and career prospects.

Work Environment

• The role involves spending most of the workday on the road, traveling between various locations.
• The role may involve working variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet time-sensitive demands.

$23-$25 per hour
