About the role
This position performs a range of functions involved with supporting walk-in customers at the sales counter and inside and outside sales, as needed. You will work closely with Branch Managers on product sales, product offerings, and marketing promotions that reinforce the branch’s strategic goals. Strong professional communication—both oral and written—is essential when dealing with customers, employees, vendors, and other branch contacts.

Responsibilities
- Assist customers in determining and selecting appropriate parts.
- Provide price quotes and other parts information.
- Inform customers of specials and companion part requirements, ensuring exposure to the full product line.
- Represent the branch professionally, remaining friendly and courteous in all customer and coworker interactions.
- Pull and fill parts orders from stock; prepare orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pickup.
- Inspect cores received from customers, tag for return to vendor, and issue customer credit upon receipt of vendor credit.
- Notify manager of out-of-stock parts or materials requiring immediate attention; locate out-of-stock parts from external sources and submit emergency orders as needed.
- Notify customers of receipt of special order parts and inform them of arrival and delivery dates.
- Verify will-call and back orders weekly; follow up on back orders and return unfulfilled items to vendors.
- Provide customers with copies of invoices; receive payment for retail purchases and obtain credit authorizations or required signatures for charge sales.
- Issue credits for returned parts after verifying purchase and pricing by reviewing the original invoice.
- Participate in annual physical inventory.
- Assist Branch Manager with maintaining the lost sales tracking program.
- Keep the front counter and parts areas clean and free of clutter; perform weekly branch cleaning in cooperation with staff.
- Stay informed of new products and product updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of work-related experience (auto parts sales a plus).
- Background in vehicle parts knowledge, automotive part fitment, OEM, and competitive part evaluation (preferred).
- Prior experience with automotive part interchanges (preferred).
- Ability to work on and lead cross-functional teams.
- Work experience in a distribution and technical environment (preferred).
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- AS 400 / JD Edwards experience or similar ERP (a plus).
- Experience working in a warehouse setting.
