Counselor, EOPS (Full-Time, Categorically Funded) Fresno City College

Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive counseling services, including personal, career, and educational counseling to individuals and groups, as well as orientation and transfer counseling services;
- Assist students in major selection, developing student education plans (SEPs), and facilitating career exploration and transfer program activities related to their educational goals and career pathways;
- Counsel students on certificate, vocational, associate degree, and transfer programs;
- Meet the special counseling needs of underrepresented student populations;
- Interpret career assessment results and advise for appropriate course scheduling;
- Participate in the enrollment, retention, and transfer of EOPS students disadvantaged by language, social, economic, and educational opportunities;
- Assist in the organization and implementation of matriculation activities, such as EOPS orientations, assessment, counseling, and follow-up services;
- Participate in Progress Monitoring activities and student follow-up with faculty and referral to on-campus resources/student support services;
- Teach counseling courses such as career planning, college and life management, academic success, and college introduction;
- Plan and implement College Success workshops and activities;
- Serve on college-wide committees and attend faculty meetings to support and enrich EOPS programs and activities, and participate in student success initiatives;
- Assist with program review and student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
- Effectively engage and support historically minoritized groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices;
- Develop and maintain an inclusive work environment that fosters diversity, respect, and engagement;
- Provide support services in addition to those provided by the college;
- Maintain close working relationships with faculty, feeder high schools, community, and other student services support programs;
- Comply with District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties;
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Students;
- Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed;
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning;
- Fulfill all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
Requirements
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.
- Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development;
- One of the following:
- Nine semester units of college course work predominantly related to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages; or
- Six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages;
- Two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
Qualifications
- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
- Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
- Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
- Related work and professional experience;
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities;
- Demonstrated ability to work with computers and other technologies utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
- Experience working in EOPS;
- Experience coordinating community college-based grant-funded programs and/or categorical programs;
- Experience working with students from traditionally disadvantaged backgrounds, students with disabilities, veterans, and/or single parents;
- Experience with reporting to an outside governing agency;
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and conflicting demands;
- Demonstrated ability to conduct and develop educational workshops;
- Proficient in utilizing available computer applications and technology related to program coordination, counseling, and instruction;
- Commitment to participatory governance, consensus building, and a team approach to serving students;
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and counsel persons of diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds;
- Successful counseling experience in a community college;
- Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
Pay
Starting annual salary is $71,054 – $108,772 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available.

Schedule
178 - 181 duty days per year, contingent upon funding. Duty days will be prorated based upon the start of the assignment.
