Human Services Instructor (Full-Time, Tenure-Track) Fresno City College

About the role

Fresno City College seeks a Human Services Instructor for a full-time, tenure-track position starting August 5, 2026. The successful candidate will teach a range of Human Services courses and contribute to the department's curriculum and community outreach efforts.

Responsibilities

• Teach a full range of Human Services courses, including but not limited to: Introduction to Social Work and Human Services Seminar, Aging Studies, Elder Care, Child Abuse, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling, Work Experience, Social Work and Human Services Fieldwork, Introduction to Social Welfare, Fundamentals of Interviewing and Counseling, Assertiveness Training, Group and Community Social Services, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling: Law and Ethics, Prevention, Education, Outreach and Referral, Introduction to Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling: Case Management, Drug Use: Physical and Psychological Effects, and Introduction to Child Welfare.
• Develop courses and programs.
• Prepare and maintain certification in related programs based on accreditation agency standards.
• Maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position and currency in teaching Human Services.
• Assist with the development and growth of the Social Work and Human Services program.
• Engage in community outreach to develop relationships with community organizations.
• Work with the Human Services Advisory Committee.
• Develop, coordinate, and monitor student placements in Human Services field work sites.
• Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate a wide range of instructional delivery systems including innovative and creative uses of technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
• Evaluate student progress through tests and examinations, written assignments, and oral responses in keeping with course objectives.
• Provide accurate course syllabi to students.
• Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
• Turn in all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed.
• Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning.
• Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus, and large group instruction classes as needed, may include off-campus instruction at local high schools for dual enrollment.
• Otherwise fulfill all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master's in social work, sociology, psychology, counseling (specifically in marriage and family therapy, rehabilitation counseling or gerontology); or a valid California Community College Credential; or the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
• Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
• Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
• Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
• Related work and professional experience.
• Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, students with disabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
• A Master's degree (MSW) or higher in Social Work; at least five years of professional experience of field work in human services, social work, counseling, mental health, crisis intervention, case management, community outreach, substance-use treatment, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated effective teaching experience in Human Services at the college or university level or experience teaching outside of a formal setting, such as but not limited to community education, psychosocial education groups, professional workshops, and trainings.
• Demonstrated depth, breadth, and mastery in human services as exemplified by educational background.
• Experience teaching online (e.g., hybrid, 100% online).
• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Benefits

The starting annual salary is $71,054 - $106,970 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher's Retirement System (CalSTRS).
