COUNSELOR
About the role
Provide clinical support to program participants in the areas of addiction and mental health in either a residential or outpatient program by providing therapeutic counseling services through insight and interventions. Maintain caseload, provide both group and individual counseling services as detailed by program standards. Ensure the program supports individual goals of program participants, and that the program’s recovery model is followed. Demonstrate regard for the dignity and respect of the clients and staff. Always display a caring and supportive attitude and represent the program in a positive manner. Maintain the confidentiality of all program participant information. Uphold the integrity of RHD values as outlined in the employee handbook.
Responsibilities
- Therapy Partner with individuals to develop their recovery goals in relation to their medical, psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders.
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions.
- Aid in program participants aftercare planning and follow-up.
- Evaluate residents’ progress and report to funders/referral sources as requested through authorization/re-authorization reviews.
- Participate actively in clinical case conferences as a member of the individual’s support team.
- Maintain active caseload including engaging individuals in ongoing treatment.
- Maintain tracking system for treatment plans, and other required documents to meet program funder guidelines and program goals.
- Participate in clinical group meetings regarding ongoing treatment goals, progress and discharge as needed.
- Enter documentation into electronic medical records in accordance with agency guidelines.
- Maintain up to date scheduling calendar.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- Certification may be required to be obtained within a specific timeframe of hire date, depending on program license requirements.
- A minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders.
- Working knowledge of computer business software and electronic health care record programs.
