If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you! We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as a Counselor, with positions available that can vary depending on your qualifications and experience.

About the Role

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director, the Counselor counsels and aids individuals convicted of driving while intoxicated and/or facing criminal charges related to substance abuse. The Counselor also supports their families regarding substance abuse problems and the recovery process. This professional role provides treatment services for successful program completion while upholding confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Interview clients, review records, and confer with other professionals to evaluate client conditions.
  • Participate in the development of Individual Discharge Plans.
  • Formulate various programs for treatment and rehabilitation of clients.
  • Administer assessment tools and interpret results to determine client needs.
  • Counsel clients individually and in group sessions to assist them in overcoming alcohol and drug issues.
  • Counsel family members to help them support the client.
  • Refer clients to other support services as needed.
  • Monitor clients to evaluate therapy success and adapt treatment as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, case histories, and accurate progress notes.
  • Formulate and conduct psycho-educational programs that comply with facility-approved evidence-based curriculum to promote interventions with alcohol and drug abuse.
  • Manage a classroom and direct group activities.
  • Perform a variety of clerical and administrative tasks, including intake processing.
  • Aid in preparing teaching materials and education support resources.
  • Collect evaluation data and prepare composite reports.

Requirements

  • Counselor I: Associate’s Degree or equivalent in substance abuse and one (1) year of experience in a counseling environment. Must possess a current State-approved LSAA (Licensed Substance Abuse Associate).
  • Counselor II: Current State of New Mexico approved LSAA (Licensed Substance Abuse Associate) and eligibility for master’s level social work licensure or related counseling field licensure within one year, OR Current State of New Mexico approved LADAC (Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor) licensure.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with an offender population.
  • Experience with addictions counseling.
  • Experience with formulating and conducting educational programs to promote the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse.

A criminal background check may be conducted for applicants as part of the application process, depending on the location.
