COUNSELOR

Position Summary

The position reports to the Director of Counseling. The services provided through the Counseling Center aid students in coping with obstacles such as depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, and other personal issues which might otherwise interfere with educational and personal development. Counselors may also suggest referrals to other community and college resources when appropriate and with the agreement of the student. All services are confidential.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology or related field.
• Eighteen (18) months’ working experience in mental health or related field.
• Experience working with at-risk student populations.
• Must be licensed mental health professional in the state of Texas such as Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor – Associate.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Demonstrated knowledge of theory, practice, and ethics within the counseling profession.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across campus units.

Job Duties

• Provide brief individual, couple, and group counseling sessions.
• Provide consultation services regarding mental health for students, faculty, and staff.
• Develop and implement education and prevention programs around issues of mental health and well-being in order to create campus-wide awareness.
