The Counsel, Business Services role is a high-impact legal position within a fast-growing fintech company focused on making homeownership more accessible and financially flexible. Key responsibilities include:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, SaaS and cloud services agreements, software licenses, professional services arrangements, and marketing and procurement contracts.
- Provide day-to-day guidance on operational, regulatory, and contractual matters impacting business activities, serving as a trusted legal advisor to cross-functional teams.
- Partner with Procurement, Product, Engineering, IT, Finance, Marketing, and Operations to structure and support commercial relationships that enable scalable growth while mitigating legal and regulatory risks.
- Evaluate vendor relationships, assess legal and compliance exposure, and ensure adherence to consumer financial services regulations.
- Review and advise on powers of attorney, trust documents, and related authorization matters to support homeowner transactions and operational decision-making.
- Aid in legal operations initiatives, including contract lifecycle management improvements, template development, process optimization, and support for litigation, disputes, and regulatory matters.
Requirements include:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school with active bar membership in good standing in the United States.
- 4-6 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, in-house legal team, or hybrid environment, with a focus on commercial contracts and business services.
- Experience in consumer financial services, fintech, mortgage lending, or other regulated consumer-facing industries.
- Strong expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial and technology agreements, including SaaS, cloud services, licensing, and vendor contracts.
- Solid understanding of consumer financial regulations (e.g., UDAP/UDAAP, FCRA, state consumer protection laws) and their impact on commercial arrangements.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to balance legal risk with practical, growth-oriented decision-making in fast-paced environments.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse teams and levels.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in ambiguous or evolving business contexts.
