About the role
We are looking for a skilled Couchbase Engineer to design, build, maintain, and optimize our NoSQL database architecture. In this role, you will ensure high availability, performance, scalability, and security of our Couchbase clusters. You will work closely with software engineering, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to support mission-critical applications and drive data architecture best practices.
Responsibilities
- Provision, configure, tune, and maintain multi-node Couchbase clusters across development, staging, and production environments (on-premise or cloud).
- Monitor cluster health, optimize memory allocation, index strategies (GSI/FTS), N1QL/SQL++ queries, and compaction settings for optimal throughput and low latency.
- Manage Cross-Data Center Replication (XDCR), failover scenarios, backup/restore procedures, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Collaborate with application developers to design efficient document schemas, key-value designs, and integrate SDKs (Java, Node.js, Python, Go, etc.).
- Implement and maintain database security standards, including RBAC, encryption at rest/in transit, TLS, and audit logging.
- Automate database deployment, scaling, and patching using tools like Ansible, Terraform, Docker, or Kubernetes (Couchbase Autonomous Operator).
- Diagnose and resolve complex database performance bottlenecks, node failures, and data sync issues in real time.
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on experience managing and engineering Couchbase NoSQL enterprise solutions.
- Proficiency in N1QL / SQL++, JSON document modeling, and index optimization (GSI, FTS, Analytics).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong working knowledge of XDCR, failover processes, and cluster sizing/scaling dynamics.
- Proficiency in shell scripting, Python, or configuration management tools (Ansible, Terraform).
- Deep understanding of Linux OS administration, network protocols, memory management, and disk I/O optimization.
Skills
- Certification as a Couchbase Certified Associate or Professional (preferred).
- Experience with Couchbase Capella (DBaaS) or Couchbase Mobile (Lite / Sync Gateway) (preferred).
- Familiarity with other NoSQL/In-Memory technologies (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra) (preferred).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions) (preferred).
