About the role
This position is responsible for providing construction cost estimating support to CLIENT’s capital projects for Federal agencies during design and construction phases. The ideal candidate would be someone who has specialized experience in cost estimating on construction projects ranging in construction budget from $1M to $30M.
Responsibilities
- Provide cost estimating support to CLIENT’s capital projects for Federal agencies during design and construction phases.
- Develop cost estimates from detailed drawings, specifications, sketches, narrative descriptions, Request for Information (RFI) responses, supplemental instruction packages, or other available information.
- Read construction drawings and perform accurate quantity takeoffs independently.
- Independently develop accurate construction cost estimates using project information such as scopes of work and construction documents (drawings and specifications), Federal agencies standards, AACEi standards, Gordian RS Means Data, vendor quotes, market research including labor market, local market conditions, material availability and pricing, and published economic data including but not limited to employment, prevailing wages, escalation.
- Be proficient in the following Software: Bluebeam Revu for quantity takeoffs, Microsoft Excel for developing the estimate, and other Microsoft Software - Word, Teams, Outlook.
- Perform take-offs and estimate costs for labor, equipment, and materials and apply appropriate overhead and profit markups consistent with client regulations, the region, and market or industry trends.
- Develop, maintain, update, and analyze cost for internal design and construction efforts and review and analyze cost provided by construction contractors as an Owner’s Representative on behalf of the Client or Government.
- Perform investigation or market study via telephone, internet, or other means to determine appropriate pricing for specialty services or construction not typically found in estimating guides to support development of estimates for proposed changes, analysis of contractor proposals, and/or development of pre-negotiation objectives.
Requirements
- Knowledge of construction cost estimating principles and the ability to develop cost estimates from detailed drawings, specifications, sketches, narrative descriptions, Request for Information (RFI) responses, supplemental instruction packages, or other available information.
- Ability to read construction drawings and perform accurate quantity takeoffs independently.
- Capability to independently develop accurate construction cost estimates using project information such as scopes of work and construction documents (drawings and specifications), Federal agencies standards, AACEi standards, Gordian RS Means Data, vendor quotes, market research including labor market, local market conditions, material availability and pricing, and published economic data including but not limited to employment, prevailing wages, escalation.
- Proficiency in the following Software: Bluebeam Revu for quantity takeoffs, Microsoft Excel for developing the estimate, and other Microsoft Software - Word, Teams, Outlook.
- General familiarity with the trades and related engineering fields, including civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
- Ability to exercise good interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- Shall possess a degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with a specialty in Estimating or evidence of three (3) years of construction estimating work experience and knowledge to compensate for absence of higher education.
- Preferred Certifications: Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) or Certified Cost Professional (CCP).
