Cost Control Specialist III

Location: New Orleans – candidates must reside within commuting distance to downtown New Orleans.

Employment type: Full-Time Regular (exempt; eligible for straight-time overtime).

About the role

The Cost Control Specialist supports project teams by performing cost control activities for a portfolio of large utility projects. Responsibilities include validating and reporting project costs, incorporating trends or approved changes, and providing financial forecasts for assigned projects.

Responsibilities

• Work with project and discipline personnel to prepare project cost expectations and tracking tools.
• Understand all relevant project documents pertaining to the preparation of cost control plans and reports.
• Ensure the integrity of accounting information and provide analytical services for transmission and substation projects.
• Monitor, maintain, and complete key reports and provide analytical functions for capital projects using data and other critical deliverables.
• Collect, evaluate, and report capital budget, project cost, work order closings, and variance reporting.
• Initiate, monitor, maintain, and close out capital work orders in all legal entities.
• Create and analyze capital budgets, financial forecasts, reporting of actual financial results, and variance explanations.
• Work with accounting on reconciling invoices and assist in the preparation of accruals.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High-school diploma or equivalent.
• Five to ten years of related experience as a project cost analyst or similar role.
• Working knowledge of cost control software and ability to learn new software platforms quickly.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel; intermediate skills with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and interact effectively with staff at all levels.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and travel to client sites on occasion.
• Availability to work overtime as needed based on project demands.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.

Working Conditions

• Interaction with team members, supervisors, and client personnel.
• Periodic out-of-town travel to obtain project field data or attend project meetings.
• Field duties may require outdoor work in plant, facility, or terminal environments.
• Must be able to wear required safety equipment.
• May visit multiple job sites in a day and must tolerate climate changes.
