Addison Group is seeking a Cost Analyst / Staff Accountant for an established organization in Reston, VA. This role supports a broad range of accounting and financial analysis activities and will work closely with the Controller and other internal business partners while supporting ongoing process improvements and a future ERP system transition. The position is initially fully on-site, with potential for limited work-from-home flexibility after the first six months.
Responsibilities
- Maintain general ledger accounts and support day-to-day accounting activities.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Perform balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Prepare supporting schedules, account analyses, and close documentation.
- Review financial results and investigate unusual activity, variances, and discrepancies.
- Support cost accounting activities, including standard costing and cost variance analysis.
- Analyze actual costs against standard costs and identify significant variances.
- Perform cost, margin, pricing, and profitability analysis.
- Forecast and analyze costs related to labor, materials, inventory, and operational processes.
- Maintain cost accounting records and supporting documentation in accordance with GAAP.
- Analyze inventory values and assist with ensuring accurate inventory accounting.
- Partner with operations and other internal teams to identify cost-saving and productivity improvement opportunities.
- Prepare financial and operational analyses to support business decisions.
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Monitor spending against established budgets and projections.
- Maintain fixed asset records and supporting documentation.
- Record fixed asset additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.
- Reconcile fixed asset subsidiary records to the general ledger.
- Review fixed assets for potential obsolescence.
- Prepare fixed asset schedules and supporting documentation for audits.
- Track capital expenditures against approved budgets and authorizations.
- Generate reports and analyses using Microsoft Excel and other business intelligence tools.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests.
- Support internal controls and compliance with established accounting policies and U.S. GAAP.
- Assist with ERP implementation and accounting system transition activities.
- Document existing processes and help identify opportunities to improve reporting, controls, and accounting efficiency.
- Support special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field required.
- Strong general ledger accounting experience required.
- Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Cost accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with inventory accounting, analysis, or management preferred.
Pay
$65,000–$75,000 annually
