About the Role
This non-exempt position assists customers in their shopping experience by sacking purchases and supporting general store operations in an efficient, friendly, and courteous manner. The Utility Clerk formally reports to the Office Manager.
Responsibilities
- Utilize proper bagging techniques to minimize product damage, maximize efficiency, and avoid shrink.
- Implement Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards.
- Answer customer questions accurately and courteously by knowing store items, procedures, and policies.
- Deliver groceries to and load them into customer vehicles when requested.
- Assist customers in locating items in the store.
- Retrieve carts from the parking lot and ensure they are safe and clean for customer use.
- Conduct price checks for cashiers.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness of the sales floor, cashier stands, and restrooms for safety.
- Resolve customer complaints professionally and escalate to management when necessary.
- Comply with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures; encourage team compliance.
- Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
- Meet or exceed productivity standards for individual and team results.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
- Follow all government regulations regarding alcohol and tobacco sales.
Non-essential duties may include returning unwanted items to shelves, checking carts for overlooked items to prevent loss, supporting other departments or stores as needed, and completing additional tasks assigned by management.
Requirements
- Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
- May be required to obtain a valid liquor license prior to the first day of work.
- Basic math and reading skills required for the position.
Physical Abilities
- Pushing and pulling grocery items and carts (up to 25 lbs. peak force).
- Standing and walking for long periods on hard surfaces (tile, asphalt, concrete).
- Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs. to a height of 34 inches.
- Bending and squatting, including to floor level.
- Working in colder conditions (grocery coolers and freezers).
Non-essential physical tasks may include climbing a ladder up to 5 feet.
