About the Role

This non-exempt position assists customers by producing high-quality deli products and delivering courteous, efficient service. The Deli Clerk reports to the Deli Manager.

Requirements

• Obtain a food handling permit within the first 14 days of employment.
• Complete ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently and accurately prepare, package, and label products for sale to customers.
• Practice appropriate portion control in deli production and service.
• Manage inventory by counting and verifying merchandise against invoices and inspecting deliveries for shortages, damages, and quality.
• Follow rotation procedures to ensure product dates are properly monitored.
• Prepare and cook all deli hot foods, set up the hot case for presentation, and prepare all cold deli items.
• Ensure coolers, freezers, and preparation areas are clean and ready for deliveries.
• Quickly unload incoming shipments and stock them neatly without damaging merchandise.
• Meet or exceed productivity standards for team and individual results.
• Familiarize yourself with department items to accurately answer customer questions.
• Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve management when necessary.
• Implement Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards.
• Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
• Comply with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures; encourage team compliance.
• Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
• Perform basic math and reading tasks required for the position.
• Promote department sales by suggesting additional products and offering samples.
• Create visually pleasing display cases to showcase high-quality items.
• Complete additional tasks identified by management, assist other stores or departments as needed, and gain new skills when necessary.

Physical Abilities

• Reach overhead with both arms up to 74 inches, twist at the waist, and lift objects up to 5 lbs.
• Push and pull grocery items with a peak force of 10 lbs.
• Stand and walk for long periods on hard surfaces (tile, asphalt, concrete).
• Occasionally lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
• Bend and squat, sometimes to floor level.
• Work in cooler and freezer conditions.
• Climb a ladder up to 5 feet (non-essential).
