Corrosion Prevention Technician

About the role

HF Sinclair Midstream is seeking a Corrosion Prevention Technician to plan and perform tasks related to the cathodic protection and corrosion control program for company-owned and operated pipelines and tanks.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize corrosion-related testing equipment and methods to evaluate company-owned pipelines, tanks, and facilities for corrosion, corrosion-related defects, and adequacy of the cathodic protection program.
  • Develop and implement plans to remedy any deficiencies.
  • Complete cathodic protection corrosion surveys.
  • Perform measurement, troubleshooting, and repair of rectifiers used in cathodic protection.
  • Interpret internal corrosion data collected from coupons and liquid samples.
  • Maintain records for all surveys, tests, and work progress reports in accordance with state, federal, and company policies.
  • Conduct proper atmospheric inspections on company-owned and operated assets in accordance with state, federal, and company policies.
  • Prepare and participate in PHMSA, state, and internal audits.
  • Participate in corrosion-related local correlation committee meetings and NACE functions, including local chapter meetings, area conferences, and technical committees.
  • Oversee installation of corrosion mitigation systems.
  • Assist in coordinating all maintenance of the cathodic protection and corrosion prevention system in the assigned area.
  • Serve as a liaison with Pipeline Operations and Integrity Management Engineers on corrosion-related technical aspects and assist when necessary.
  • Review drawings and project submittals for possible interference with company-owned assets.
  • Perform special assignments or tasks as determined by management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight years of on-the-job experience.
  • Preferred experience: pipeline construction and/or pipeline operations, background in electrical theory, use of MC Miller GX field computer and Mc Miller Proactive software.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of a level II NACE Cathodic Protection Technician Certification and NACE Corrosion Technologist Certification.
  • Preferred education: Bachelor’s degree.

Skills

  • Intermediate-level reading, writing, and advanced mathematical calculation skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and carry out duties with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with MS10 operating system and Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of co-workers and external contacts.
  • Required to maintain operator qualifications related to corrosion prevention.
  • Advanced understanding of DOT CFR 49 Part 195 requirements.
  • Ability to maintain and operate a company-owned vehicle, including off-road environments and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
  • Ability to lead and train other company personnel.

Work Conditions

  • Field-based position with up to 40% travel by land or air.
  • Required to work in refinery/industrial environments or outdoors, subject to varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • May be exposed to loud noises, vibrations, fumes, airborne particles, dust, dirt, mud, water, petroleum products, chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and/or extreme temperatures.
  • May work near moving mechanical parts, rotating equipment, or be exposed to electrical shock risks.
  • May work in confined spaces or at heights up to 50 feet.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, or grasping.
  • Making visual inspections and precise hand and finger movements.
  • Working in confined spaces.
  • Lifting or carrying up to 80 lbs, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Climbing up to 50 feet.
  • Ability to perceive color differences.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment; may occasionally wear a respirator in emergency situations.
  • Ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates.
