Corrections Security Caseworker

Location: Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) – Stillwater

Shift: Day Shift, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday

About the role

This position exists to promote change in incarcerated people to ensure successful reentry to the community while enhancing public safety. Provide transformational services, supervision, assessment, effective interventions, case planning, and release planning for a caseload of the incarcerated population. Develop skills with assistance from Corrections Security Caseworker-Careers (CSCC) using team mentoring, consultation, participating in peer learning opportunities, and skills development sessions. This position has direct contact with incarcerated individuals.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, assessment, and effective interventions for a caseload of incarcerated individuals
• Develop and implement case plans and release planning
• Apply correctional evidence-based practices (EBP) such as cognitive-behavioral programming, risk and needs assessments, motivational interviewing, and person-centered principles
• Prepare and present reports, explain complex policies and statutes to stakeholders, and make recommendations
• Manage a caseload, prioritize issues, and handle details in a constantly changing legal and procedural environment
• Use computer databases and software programs to collect and enter data in case records
• Maintain effective working relationships and collaboration with incarcerated individuals, co-workers, government officials, social service providers, families, and other stakeholders

Requirements

• Two (2) years of experience working with clients from a diverse background in corrections, social work, social services, education, chemical dependency, mental health, residential treatment, or a related field
• Completion of a Master's degree may substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience, a Bachelor's degree may substitute for one (1) year of experience, or an Associate's degree may substitute for six (6) months of experience

Qualifications

• Human relations and conflict management skills sufficient to maintain effective working relationships and collaboration with diverse stakeholders
• Oral and written communication skills to prepare reports, explain policies, and make recommendations
• Organizational skills to manage a caseload and prioritize issues in a dynamic environment
• Proficiency in using computer database and software programs for data entry and case records
• Knowledge of correctional evidence-based practices (EBP)

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of a degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Education, Law, Law Enforcement, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a Human Services related field with an emphasis in corrections/criminal justice
• Knowledge of case planning and applying intervention techniques based on research-based principles for long-term client behavior change
• Experience working in a correctional setting
• Training and experience in applying risk/need/responsivity principles
• Training and experience applying motivational techniques and core correctional practices
• Second language skills in a language significantly represented in the offender population
• Experience working with the Minnesota Department of Corrections as a Corrections Agent or Corrections Security Caseworker, or with another jurisdiction as a Probation Officer or Case Manager

Physical Requirements

The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position and may be required to complete a tuberculosis screening.

• Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check, including successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation
• Employment history and reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will be conducted
• New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment
• The Minnesota Department of Corrections does not sponsor applicants for work visas; applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Pay

$28.26 - $41.43/hourly; $59,007 - $86,506 annually
