Corrections Facility Administration Director
Location: St. Cloud, MN
Full-time, unlimited (permanent) position
Day shift: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday
Salary range: $44.80 – $64.46/hour ($93,542 – $134,592/year)
About the role
The Associate Warden of Administration (AWA) directs the administrative division of a high-security correctional facility, ensuring cost-effective, safe, and productive operations that align with department and facility goals. This position serves as a fiscal advisor to the Warden and a core member of the Warden’s Executive Team, assuming leadership authority in the Warden’s absence.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the administrative division, including physical plant maintenance, food service operations, health and safety activities, incarcerated person (IP) discipline, records management, mailroom, warehouse, inventory management, canteen, and IP property.
- Serve as fiscal advisor to the Warden, leading budget preparation, monitoring spending plans, and ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.
- Formulate facility goals as a member of the Warden’s Executive Team and assume leadership authority during the Warden’s absence.
- Act as the facility Public Information Officer (PIO) and media liaison, coordinating facility litigation and claims.
- Serve as the designated Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator for incarcerated individuals.
Requirements
- Three (3) years of experience in corrections, finance, business administration, human resources, public administration, or a related field, sufficient to direct diverse activities such as physical plant operations, finance, safety, or food services.
- Note: A Master’s degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; a Bachelor’s degree may substitute for 1 year; an Associate’s degree may substitute for 6 months.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, which may include any of the following:
- Supervisor, team lead, lead worker, or project lead experience (project leads provide leadership, guidance, and advanced technical expertise for evaluation, development, design, testing, or implementation in a project environment).
- Completion of a State leadership development program (e.g., Emerging Leaders Institute or Senior Leadership Institute) or a similar program through another organization.
- Leadership of a program, committee (e.g., Employee Resource Group), or initiative, whether paid or unpaid, demonstrating:
- Strong leadership skills, including managing, guiding, and communicating with staff and partners at all levels.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment by incorporating multi-disciplined interests into decisions and actions.
- Leading teams to meet productivity, quality, or goal expectations.
- Planning, organizing, and directing technical and administrative activities of staff and partners.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of fiscal management principles and procedures to oversee budget preparation, annual spending plans, and capital improvements.
- Knowledge of human resources principles, procedures, and systems to manage labor relations in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and affirmative action/equal opportunity policies.
- Organizational skills to independently balance a broad variety of tasks and responsibilities across diverse administrative areas.
- Written and oral communication skills to relay sensitive information to staff, the public, law enforcement, media, attorneys, offenders, and other agencies, and to elicit cooperation in resolving difficult or dangerous situations.
- Human relations and conflict resolution skills to solve problems with mutual respect, contribute to a healthy work environment, and address the needs of individuals and groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory experience within a correctional or secured facility.
- Experience developing and administering budgets.
- Experience setting strategy, aligning resources, integrating an equity lens, and delivering measurable results.
- Demonstrated integrity, accountability, and professionalism while leading people, projects, or organizational initiatives.
- Experience adapting communication and leadership approaches to meet the needs of diverse individuals, teams, and situations.
Physical Requirements
The selected candidate must review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position and may be required to complete a tuberculosis screening.

- Top candidate(s) will undergo a criminal history check, including verification of sentencing/restitution compliance, probation, and employment history/reference checks (including incidents of sexual harassment).
- New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
