Director of Training Services, Corrections

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a Director of Training Services to oversee staff training and development for all State Correctional Institutions, Corrections Community Centers, Parole Field Operations, and County Prisons. This role shapes high-quality programs that support safe and effective operations in correctional settings across the state.

About the role

This professional and administrative position directs the operations of the Training Academy and ensures training efforts align with agency priorities while upholding high standards for staff preparation.

Responsibilities

• Program Oversight: Determine priorities, develop plans, assign work, and collaborate with leaders of state and county correctional, in-service, and specialized training programs.
• Policy Development: Create the agency’s annual training plan and report, evaluate institution-specific plans, and implement changes to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
• Academy Operations: Direct Training Academy operations, including business management, inmate worker oversight, maintenance, food service, and public relations.
• Training Management: Oversee the Trainee Program, On-The-Job Training Program, and Apprenticeship Program; develop county prison basic training and staff development; and approve or disapprove out-service training requests while monitoring results.
• Administrative Collaboration: Participate in labor/management meetings, contract negotiations, and task forces related to training and issue resolution; review extraordinary occurrence and related reports.

Requirements

• Minimum Experience and Training:
  • Seven years of experience in corrections, including four years of professional experience developing and presenting training courses and two years of professional supervisory experience; or
  • Five years of experience in corrections, including two years of professional experience developing and presenting training courses and two years of professional supervisory experience, plus a master's degree in psychology, education, criminal justice, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes two years of professional supervisory experience developing and presenting training courses in corrections.
• Ability to perform essential job functions.
• Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Schedule

• Full-time employment.
• Work hours: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework is not available for this position.
