Corrections Equipment Operator - SCI Benner Township

About the role

Join the Department of Corrections as a Corrections Equipment Operator and help move important cargo to keep SCI Benner Township operating smoothly. This involves transporting freight for the Correctional Industries Regional Laundry Operation. Work focuses on training and overseeing inmate workers who load and unload freight while contributing to a safe and organized work environment.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate tractor-trailers, trucks, and other motor vehicles to complete daily assignments
• Perform routine vehicle safety checks and minor equipment repairs
• Complete and turn in receipts, reports, and logs
• Train, guide, and monitor inmate workers in the proper methods for handling freight, making minor repairs, and completing bills of lading
• Prepare reports covering attendance, performance, bonuses, and related documentation
• Safeguard work areas, issue and track tools, conduct searches for contraband

Requirements

• Two years of experience in the operation of tractor-trailer trucks; or a combination of experience and training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities
• Valid Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver's License
• Ability to perform essential job functions

Legal Requirements

• Pass a background investigation
• Meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements

Schedule

Full-time employment, 40 hours per week. Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday - Friday.

Benefits

Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

Pay

Starting annual salary of $49,010 (before taxes) for candidates new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
