Correctional Unit Medical Director
Key Responsibilities
- Provides Clinical Leadership & Medical Oversight
- Serves as the Unit Health Authority, ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare services and compliance with organizational, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Collaborates with the Regional Medical Director and correctional leadership to address clinical, operational, and patient care needs.
- Delivers Comprehensive Patient Care
- Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats acute and chronic medical conditions through patient assessments, examinations, and clinical decision-making.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, develops treatment plans, and coordinates specialty referrals as needed.
- Ledrs & Supports Healthcare Providers
- Supervises physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, providing clinical oversight and mentorship.
- Delegates prescriptive authority and promotes a culture of teamwork, accountability, and clinical excellence.
- Maintains Quality, Compliance & Documentation
- Maintains accurate medical records and ensures timely, thorough clinical documentation.
- Maintains compliance with TTUHSC, TDCJ, and applicable healthcare policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Supports Continuity of Care
- Participates in the provider call rotation to ensure patient access to care after hours, on weekends, and holidays.
- Responds to urgent clinical needs and supports continuity of healthcare services across the correctional unit.
Required Qualifications
- Current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
- Current Drug Enforcement Agency certificate.
