About the Role

We're looking for a sharp, business-minded lawyer to join our scrappy, ambitious team. You'll work on meaningful deals that shape how people watch TV, sitting at the intersection of law and deal-making to support our content acquisition and business development teams.

What We're Building

Philo delivers a live TV streaming experience with 70+ channels, including top-tier networks like Paramount Network, AMC, Lifetime, Comedy Central, Discovery, Nickelodeon, and MTV. We offer unlimited DVR, premium add-ons like STARZ and MGM+, and a free ad-supported streaming (FAST) service with over 150 channels. Our Bundle+ service includes ad-supported premium services like HBO, AMC+, and discovery+. Backed by NEA, Mark Cuban Companies, and industry heavyweights such as Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount, Skydance, AMC, and A&E, we have offices in Brooklyn, NY, San Francisco, CA, and Cambridge, MA.

The Legal Team

Our Legal Team acts as a true partner to the business, delivering practical, creative solutions to help Philo move fast and win. We're a small, high-impact team with a General Counsel, an in-house group, and relationships with top outside firms. You'll work out of our Brooklyn, NY office alongside two senior lawyers and key executives like our CEO and CFO.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and draft content license agreements, platform deals, production agreements, vendor MSAs, SOWs, and IOs—driving deals to close rather than just reviewing or supervising.
  • Support content acquisition and business development teams on deals that define Philo’s offerings and growth.
  • Handle a variety of legal needs, including releases, clearances, IP questions, takedowns, technology/SAAS agreements, and unexpected challenges.
  • Build legal playbooks, develop templates, and establish best practices to improve team efficiency over time.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of legal experience, including hands-on television licensing (network affiliation, FAST) and preferably platform deals.
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active New York Bar membership.
  • Practical, business-savvy instincts—providing advice that’s not just legally correct but actionable.
  • Low ego, high output—focused on solving problems rather than protecting turf.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for media and entertainment, with a passion for the product and industry.
