Corporate Counsel

About the role

The Corporate Counsel will support and manage complex litigation matters, coordinate discovery, witness preparation, depositions, and litigation strategy. They will also advise on accommodations, employee relations issues, disciplinary actions, terminations, severance matters, and restrictive covenant issues. The role involves drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and maintaining commercial agreements, including transportation, vendor, employment, benefits, and lease agreements. Additionally, they will support compliance initiatives, policy development, corporate governance matters, and strategic legal projects.

Responsibilities

• Support and manage complex litigation matters, including employment, commercial, transportation, and other business-related disputes
• Coordinate discovery, witness preparation, depositions, and litigation strategy
• Manage EEOC charges, employment claims, investigations, and employment-related legal risks
• Advise on accommodations, employee relations issues, disciplinary actions, terminations, severance matters, and restrictive covenant issues
• Draft, review, negotiate, and maintain commercial agreements, including transportation, vendor, employment, benefits, and lease agreements
• Support compliance initiatives, policy development, corporate governance matters, and strategic legal projects
• Partner with the General Counsel and Executive Team on business initiatives, operational improvements, and growth-related projects
• Aid in reducing outside counsel dependency by strengthening internal legal capabilities
• Assist in reducing outside counsel dependency by strengthening internal legal capabilities

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Active law license and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
• 5+ years of litigation experience
• Significant discovery and deposition experience
• Strong labor & employment law experience, including EEOC matters and employment litigation
• Exceptional legal writing, research, and analytical skills
• Strong business judgment and practical problem-solving abilities

Qualifications

• First-chair and/or trial experience
• M&A or workforce integration experience
• Transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, or supply chain industry experience
• Experience working directly with executive leadership teams
