About the role

The Corporate Controller is a hands-on accounting leader responsible for performing and overseeing all day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls for the organization. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information, prepares timely reporting, leads cost accounting and inventory processes, and partners across departments to support operational and strategic decision-making. The role performs much of the detailed work typically associated with a senior general accountant while also providing leadership, systems oversight, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Compliance
    • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process and prepare accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
    • Ensure compliance with internal policies, external regulations, and tax requirements.
    • Manage the consolidation of financial statements across multiple business units, entities, and systems.
  • Accounting Operations
    • Serve as the company’s general accountant by performing and overseeing accounting functions, including preparing and posting journal entries for all general ledger accounts (cash, inventory, accounts payable/receivable, payroll distribution, benefits, accrued liabilities, fixed assets, commissions, allocations).
    • Oversee and perform all banking and cash-related transactions, including daily treasury management.
    • Prepare monthly reconciliations for all general ledger accounts.
    • Administer NetSuite, Expensify, Sage Fixed Assets, the JPMC One Card Program, and related systems in partnership with IT and Granite Partners, ensuring systems and processes support efficient business operations. Provide user training and develop supporting materials as needed.
    • Lead the implementation and optimization of accounting systems and processes.
  • Inventory & Cost Accounting
    • Serve as the principal cost accountant, ensuring product costing methodologies and processes produce accurate and reliable item costs.
    • Collaborate with Operations and Purchasing to ensure quality inventory practices that meet audit requirements, including cycle counts and physical counts.
    • Perform monthly cost updates to ensure item costing reflects appropriate and current inputs.
    • Monitor inventory accuracy, cycle counts, and obsolescence; analyze results and propose adjustments as necessary.
    • Review and approve inventory scrap and inventory-related adjustments.
  • Audit & Tax
    • Act as liaison with auditors, advisors, and tax authorities; coordinate and manage all external audit activities.
    • Support internal audit processes as required.
    • Review and approve tax strategies and compliance across jurisdictions.
    • Ensure timely tax compliance across all jurisdictions.
  • Treasury Management & Debt
    • Oversee and perform all banking activities, cash transactions, and treasury operations.
    • Maintain strong awareness of cybercrime risks and ensure internal controls over cash disbursements effectively mitigate exposure.
    • Identify process improvements and recommend enhancements to the CFO; implement approved changes to increase the effectiveness of invoicing, collections, cash receipts, vendor invoicing, and disbursements.
    • Serve as the primary liaison with JPMC for cash management, receipts, payments, and debt amortization; escalate issues to the CFO as needed.
    • Approve disbursements.
  • Insurance & Regulatory
    • Lead and coordinate the annual renewal process for corporate insurance, providing detailed financial and operational information as required.
    • Act as liaison among the company, insurance brokers, customers, suppliers, and employees.
    • Assist insurance carriers with claims, audits, and inquiries.
    • Serve as the financial lead supporting the Company’s Quality Management System and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting
    • Provide detailed input to the annual budgeting process and support rolling forecasts.
    • Monitor financial performance against budget and trends; provide insights into risks, anomalies, and opportunities.
    • Support strategic planning with detailed financial analysis and modeling.
    • Support the CFO and leadership with analysis and integration related to payroll, accounting, legal entities, and tax jurisdictions for acquisitions.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
    • Collaborate with Business Unit Controllers, providing guidance on GAAP accounting, month-end close routines, financial analysis, and system/process integrations.
    • Build cross-functional relationships with Sales, Customer Service, HR, Operations, and leadership teams.
    • Promote professional development and succession planning within the finance organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required (CPA required; MBA preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including 5+ years in a manufacturing or site-based environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, NetSuite preferred, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to sit and use a computer most of the workday.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Willingness to be in the corporate office 3-4 times a month as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to other sites as needed (approximately 8-10 times per year).

Pay

We offer a competitive base salary in the $145,000.00 to $175,000.00 range, based on experience and qualifications, along with an annual bonus and the opportunity to participate in long-term incentives, including a stock appreciation rights (SARs) program.
