About the role

The Main Propulsion Systems (MPS) Engineer will work in a highly integrated team performing technical and integration activities to support main propulsion systems and launch vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Develop models and analysis tools, provide analytical documentation such as trade studies, hazards assessments, fault tolerance designs, and certifications for flight.
• Provide insight and recommendations for subsystem and vehicle in-space environment model fidelity.
• Evaluate performance of system models in ground and flight operations.
• Attend technical interchange, project planning, design review, and other meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities.
• Perform system assessments, identify issues, pursue resolutions, document, and present to engineering review board with rationale and recommendations.
• Provide integration insight, evaluations, document reviews, and milestone reviews including Review Item Discrepancy (RID) disposition at the Program and Element level.
• Evaluate vehicle changes for impacts to propulsion elements and vehicle integration.
• Conduct verification and validation reviews for propulsion components, subsystems, and integrated vehicle.
• Assess propulsion system risks and issues associated with commercial crew launch vehicles; develop requirements and implement risk management processes.
• Perform analysis and provide systems engineering skills to support various program engineering and integration tasks.
• Provide console support during simulations, testing, and launch operations, developing data analysis scripts, monitoring haz-gas and leak detection, and ensuring compliance with LCCs and OMRS.
• Perform post-test/flight data analysis of vehicle MPS performance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or related discipline required; Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university preferred.
• Typical education requirement is a BS and 0-10 years' experience.
• Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.
• Experience with liquid propulsion system design, analysis, engine integration, or development/verification testing.
• Integration experience at the vehicle or stage level to include technical and systems engineering activities.
• Capability to plan and perform systems engineering and analysis tasks independently and as a team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly motivated, flexible, and willing to shift focus areas to meet volatile customer requirements.

Work Environment

• Office environment.

• Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%).
• Requires ability to work at a computer for extended periods (100%).

Physical Requirements

• Requires sitting for extended periods in meetings (10%) and at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%).
• Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings (10%).

• Requires ability to operate a personal computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Schedule

• Normal workday: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
• Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and support technical demands.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make rational decisions (100%).
• Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk.
