Cord Blood Coordinator

LifeSouth is a non-profit community blood bank serving more than 150 hospitals in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. We are committed to meeting the blood supply needs of hospitals and their patients by providing the highest quality blood components and services. With more than 45 donor centers, 55 bloodmobiles, and 2,000 blood drives a month, our LifeSouth team is dedicated to ensuring blood is available when needed.

About the role

This position will work within the community and with hospital partners to bring awareness to the LifeSouth Cord Blood Bank program through public education and recruitment of donor moms. LifeSouth Cord Blood Bank is a community-based public cord blood bank that collects and stores umbilical cord blood for clinical cures and research in stem cell transplantation.

Responsibilities

  • Educate clinicians and potential donors on the cord blood donation process
  • Facilitate daily activities at collection site(s) and ensure they are performed
  • Supervise the Cord Blood Collection Specialists in the region
  • Train new collection staff
  • Conduct regular meetings with collection staff to review collection site goals
  • Propose incentive programs to increase collections
  • Make presentations to healthcare professionals and expecting families
  • Distribute educational materials in labor and delivery units and private Obstetric offices within the assigned district
  • Maintain effective working relationships with local hospitals and their staff
  • Educate clinicians regarding proper cord blood collection technique
  • Co-develop donor education materials and public service announcements targeting minority populations
  • Attend health fairs and other sponsored events to promote and increase awareness of Cord Blood
  • Act as liaison between Cord Blood and hospitals within the assigned district

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
  • Valid driver’s license and meet/maintain LifeSouth driver’s eligibility requirements
  • Comfortable working and navigating in a hospital setting and communicating with healthcare professionals at every level
  • Ability to co-create and deliver relevant presentations to superiors, peers, and subordinates within and outside the organization
  • Willingness and ability to travel at least 25%
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred
  • One year of Marketing or Project Management experience preferred
  • Experience in cellular therapy, cord blood processing/research, and/or leadership experience in a medical laboratory preferred

Pay

Starting salary range is $21.25 - $23.37 an hour.

Criminal background check and drug screen required upon conditional offer of hire.
