About the role

The Marcus Center for Cellular Cures (MC3) at Duke University School of Medicine has an exciting growth opportunity for a motivated individual to fill a Cord Blood Collector position at Duke Regional Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in educating potential mothers/donors about the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank (CCBB) and the concept of donating to a public cord blood bank.
  • Obtain informed consent from every mother/donor, ensuring they understand the consent form and sign it.
  • Accurately record delivery and neonatal information from medical records and enter it into the CCBB data systems.
  • Ensure maternal blood samples for infectious disease testing are collected according to standard operating procedures.
  • Follow up with clinical staff if samples are missed or unusable after discharge.
  • Collect umbilical cord blood from the delivered placenta and deliver it to the CCBB laboratory for processing and storage.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding donor identities and test results.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance Program for cord blood banking.
  • Engage in other related duties to promote public cord blood banking and recruit donors.

Requirements

  • Education/Training: Generally requires a bachelor's degree (biology, health science, or other related fields preferred).
  • Experience: No experience required beyond what is listed above.
  • Preferred Skills: Phlebotomy certification/experience, bilingual skills especially Spanish, self-directed team player, excellent analytical skills, good judgment, strong operational focus, excellent communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and customer service skills, data management including entering data, ability to focus and manage numerous detailed pieces of information.

Pay

Anticipated Pay Range: USD $23.00 to USD $34.50 annually.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 1:00 pm - 9:30 pm.
