About the role
This position involves assisting with the development of creative, cohesive, and original copy for a range of communications and materials. The role includes researching and collecting information to understand specific client needs and the client's vision for connecting with a target audience. Collaboration with the project team is essential to follow creative direction and guidelines to deliver quality solutions and content.
Responsibilities
- Drafts compelling, original and informative copy for a range of communications and outreach materials including speeches, fact sheets, presentations, reports, and press releases.
- Proofreads, revises and edits new and existing copy to ensure accuracy, well-researched, and meets client needs.
- Maintains brand voice for consistency in messaging.
- Researches and understands the client's needs and target audiences, utilizing online searches, reviewing existing research, interviewing subject matter experts, and meeting in-person.
- Collaborates with internal and external clients to understand content needs and proposes copy concepts in an engaging and persuasive way.
- Interprets creative direction and approaches all projects with a creative eye and attention to detail.
- Follows client-adopted style guides for developing and editing copy.
- Conducts high-quality research and fact checking online and in-house, taking thorough notes.
- Stays current on writing trends and materials produced by competitors.
- Aids in other aspects of the creative or research processes to create cohesive, accurate content.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Creative Writing, Advertising, English, Journalism or related field and 3 years of relevant experience, or
- In lieu of education, 7 years of experience.
Preferred
- Researching and writing news releases/alerts, creating and updating media contact lists, and compiling media kits and coaching other staff on written content.
- Developing outlines for presentations and scripts, fact-checking, and presenting outlines to more experienced staff.
- Producing content for print and digital channels (e.g., social media, print, digital advertising, fact sheets) and reviewing content of less experienced staff.
- Knowing HNTB and client style guides so as to make judgment calls to meet their requirements.
- Using attention to detail and strong editorial judgement to proof creative and technical content before submitting to more-experienced staff.
