About the Role
The Training/Quality Assurance Coordinator assists with the daily functions of the Juvenile Services department, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, established state standards, and County and Departmental policies and procedures. This role manages and coordinates professional staff training, provides supervision to Probation Officer Aides, and maintains certification and training records in compliance with Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) standards.
Responsibilities
- Serves as Certifications Officer for the department, coordinating and documenting required fingerprint-based criminal history checks and out-of-state criminal history and sex offender registration checks for staff, volunteers, and interns.
- Monitors staff training documentation and submits electronic certification and re-certification applications to TJJD.
- Tracks staff training requirements and notifies staff of any deficiencies in meeting TJJD certification and re-certification standards.
- Coordinates the swearing-in of officers, documentation of the Oath of Office, and issuance of departmental badges.
- Conducts and documents internal investigations of allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and staff misconduct in compliance with state standards and local policies.
- Manages the departmental policy and procedure manual, including initiation, revision, and distribution of policies, and evaluates associated programs.
- Coordinates the internship program, trains volunteers, and oversees training for interns from area colleges and universities.
- Designs, coordinates, and conducts professional staff training in collaboration with senior managers and in accordance with departmental initiatives.
- Provides ongoing supervision, support, and evaluation of the Probation Officer Aide position.
- Collaborates and networks with juvenile justice professionals statewide regarding training resources and trends.
- Develops and documents professional staff training to meet state certification standards, evidence-based practices, and evolving trends in juvenile justice.
- Monitors DPS criminal history reporting forms for accuracy.
- Provides statewide and regional juvenile justice-related training and assistance to local law enforcement agencies, including Texas Juvenile Law.
- Audits local law enforcement agencies to ensure compliance with storage and destruction of juvenile records as prescribed by law.
- Manages and updates the Department’s intranet system as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, or a related field. Applicants with foreign degrees must provide validation from a TJJD-approved service confirming compliance with Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board standards.
- Three (3) years of work-related experience. One year of graduate coursework in an approved field may substitute for one year of experience.
- Valid Driver’s License and auto liability insurance.
- Eligibility for certification by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
- Must possess or obtain Training for Trainers certification.
- Must meet and maintain DPS requirements for authorization to conduct criminal background checks.
Skills

- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
- Advanced analytical skills.
- Knowledge of Texas Juvenile Law, related codes, TJJD standards, and federal and local statutes.
- Proficiency or ability to become proficient in TJJD training and certification tracking software (ICIS and SEMARC).
- Ability to design effective training resources electronically.
- Skill in teaching and recognizing various adult learning styles.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- May require bending, hearing, keyboarding, sitting, standing, and talking.
- Must be able to work alone and with others, and work overtime as needed.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
