Coordinator Skilled Trades Labs (PT) - Overhead Electrical Line Worker (OELW)

About the role

Reporting to the Dean – Dawson Technical Institute, a Coordinator - Skilled Trades Lab PT (OELW) works:

• Set-up and prepare indoor and outdoor lab environment for demonstration of and practice of techniques and skills in performing physical/manual work activities and/or operating equipment.
• Demonstrate a variety of OELW climbing techniques (i.e. aerial/pole climbing, operation and use of power equipment (e.g. use of bucket trucks, cable pullers), and construction safety and rescue techniques.
• Assist Instructors with lab activities to supplement and ensure proper coordination with classroom activities.
• Inspect, organize, and check equipment and supplies used during labs to ensure proper operating conditions.
• Maintain inventory records of equipment and supplies; order supplies; and maintain appropriate storage and handling procedures.
• Report equipment failures or in need of repair to management and take appropriate steps to address issues.
• Provide information to current and prospective students about the OELW program.
• Provide additional laboratory scheduling and assist students during open lab hours for review or consultation.
• Assist with group tours, recruitment efforts, and prospective student interviews as necessary.
• Participate in all program and departmental meetings.
• Perform related duties as required.

Responsibilities

Completion of an Electrical Line Worker program
Two years of experience as an overhead electrical line worker for a utility company preferred but OSHA 10 safety certification with electrical and distribution systems (ET&D) is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of electric theory and all aspects of overhead high voltage electric line work.
Knowledge and ability to demonstrate safety and rescue techniques and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Requirements

• Physical ability to demonstrate techniques such as aerial climbing and use of power line equipment.
• Ability to operate and drive utility vehicles associated with the program.
• Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment.
• Some proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Qualifications

The salary range for this position is $35/hr.
