About the role
The Coordinator – Carpentry Skilled Trades Lab (Part-Time) works with students in a lab environment to provide hands-on demonstration and instruction in the carpentry program at Kennedy-King College.
Responsibilities
- Set up and prepare the carpentry lab environment for demonstrations and practice of carpentry techniques and skills using hand and power tools.
- Demonstrate a variety of carpentry techniques such as framing, finish work, cabinetry, and blueprint interpretation.
- Assist instructors with lab activities to ensure alignment and coordination with classroom instruction.
- Inspect, organize, and maintain carpentry tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure proper working condition.
- Maintain inventory records, order supplies, and manage stock levels for carpentry materials.
- Report equipment failures or safety concerns to management and take necessary actions to ensure student and staff safety.
- Provide information to current and prospective students about the carpentry program at CCC.
- Schedule and assist students during open lab hours for practice and skill development.
- Participate in group tours, recruitment efforts, and prospective student interviews as needed.
- Attend all program and departmental meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Technical expertise in carpentry, including blueprint reading, framing, finish carpentry, and use of hand and power tools.
- Industry certification in carpentry or equivalent industry training.
- Strong knowledge of carpentry safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and lab compliance.
- Minimum of two years of experience working in carpentry or related skilled trade.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain carpentry equipment and tools.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple lab and instructional requests.
- Demonstrated clear communication skills and a customer service mindset when interacting with students, faculty, and vendors.
- Able to lift heavy materials and work in physically demanding environments.
- Proficient in presenting technical information effectively to students.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Able to work in a culturally diverse educational environment.
- Some proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Pay
The salary for this position is $30/hr. Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
