Job Summary And Purpose
Manages employee onboarding and offboarding by coordinating activities necessary for the accurate salary and benefit set-up for new, existing and terminating employees. Investigates and resolves employee payroll concerns. Trains department and school based payroll staff on processes and procedures. Interprets School Board Policies and Regulations, making recommendations regarding specific situations related to employee pay and leave.
Work Objectives/Essential Functions
- Calculates contracted daily, monthly, and annual pay amounts and enters them in the payroll system.
- Calculates contract payoff information for employees who are not completing their employment terms and processes this information in the payroll system.
- Executes all steps of new hire, job change, and termination personnel actions.
- Facilitates and maintains communication with employees regarding their salary payments.
- Provides information to employees regarding their monthly salary allotment or payoff as necessary.
- Verifies and balances compensation changes with payroll entries.
- Facilitates training for new school and department based leave entry employees.
- Maintains leave records.
- Maintains appropriate compensation records and files.
Education and Experience
- Education Attainment (Required): High school diploma or equivalent
- Education Attainment (Preferred): Associates or Bachelor’s degree
- Relevant Experience (Required): Minimum of two (2) years of related experience. In-depth knowledge of compensation calculations.
- Relevant Experience (Preferred): Industry Licensure or Certifications (Required): Supplemental courses in bookkeeping, accounting, Human Resources, or relevant fields. Industry Licensure or Certifications (Preferred): Certified Payroll Professional (CCP) certification SHRM- CP certification
Additional Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of Payroll processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of Stafford County School Board financial management policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of standard accounting principles, terminology, methods, procedures, and equipment.
- Knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment.
- Ability to operate computers and other standard office equipment necessary for maintaining records.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and perform mathematical computations with accuracy.
- Ability to work with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite programs.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals.
- Ability to organize and perform work independently.
- Ability to meet deadlines for all work, even when working on multiple projects.
- Ability to show sustained effort and enthusiasm in the quality and quantity of work.
