About the role

The Coordinator of Financial Aid & Veterans Affairs serves as a member of the Financial Aid & Veterans Affairs leadership team and provides operational leadership for the daily administration of federal, state, institutional, and military educational assistance programs. The position coordinates financial aid processing, oversees assigned operational functions, ensures compliance with applicable regulations, supervises assigned staff, and provides guidance to students throughout the financial aid process.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the administration of federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid programs.
  • Captures daily financial aid operations to ensure timely and accurate processing of student aid.
  • Interprets and applies federal regulations, state guidelines, and institutional policies.
  • Reviews student records to determine aid eligibility and resolve discrepancies.
  • Affirms compliance with Department of Veterans Affairs regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Supports reconciliation, reporting, and quality assurance activities.
  • Serves as a member of the Financial Aid & Veterans Affairs leadership team.
  • Acts on behalf of the Vice President or department leadership in their absence as assigned.
  • Maintains current knowledge of changes in federal regulations, veterans educational benefits, and best practices in financial aid administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Enrollment Management & Student Success.

Requirements

  • Progressively responsible experience administering federal or state financial aid programs, veterans educational benefits, or related enrollment services in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying federal Title IV financial aid regulations and institutional policies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of veterans educational benefits and Department of Veterans Affairs certification processes or the ability to obtain School Certifying Official certification.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policies, regulations, and procedures while exercising sound judgment.
  • Experience using student information systems, financial aid management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience supervising staff or serving as a lead worker responsible for assigning work, training employees, or coordinating office operations.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Experience exercising sound judgment when interpreting complex regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience providing customer service while handling confidential information.
  • Experience using enterprise information systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.

Qualifications

  • Experience administering federal Pell Grant, Direct Loan, FSEOG, Federal Work-Study, or state financial aid programs.
  • Experience serving as a School Certifying Official.
  • Experience with Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
  • Experience with COD, NSLDS, FAA Access, and VA-ONCE or Enrollment Manager.
  • Experience in a Virginia Community College System institution.
  • Experience participating in financial aid audits, program reviews, or compliance monitoring.
  • Experience using document imaging or workflow systems.
  • Experience supervising classified staff.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is $57,733 to $65,000 annually.

Schedule

This position is full-time and works Monday through Friday, day hours; evenings and weekends as needed.
