About the Role
The Coordinator of Degree Certification manages undergraduate and graduate student degree certification processes in Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences. This role serves as the primary support for undergraduate and graduate academic programs and processes within the college.
Responsibilities
- Undergraduate Degree Progress Support: Prepares and monitors students’ intent to graduate no later than two semesters prior to graduation. Provides degree certification of seniors by reviewing all undergraduate senior academic advising reports. Manages the process of ensuring the posting of senior grades at the end of each term and verifies that graduation requirements have been met. Approves students for graduation in collaboration with the Registrar’s office and notifies students of their graduation status.
- Athletic Certification: Certifies the progress of all Harris College student athletes for NCAA compliance each semester in coordination with the Athletic Department and ensures deadlines are met.
- Graduate Degree Progress Support: Assists academic units with the graduate student application and admission process. Provides processing instruction for submission of graduate financial aid forms and student stipends. Sends notices to graduate students of deadlines for filing intent to graduate forms and certifies graduate students for graduation in collaboration with the Registrar’s Office. Notifies students of their graduation status.
- Associate Deans Support: Provides administrative support to the Associate Dean for Nursing & Nurse Anesthesia and Associate Dean for Health Sciences related to students’ academic standing. Researches, advises, and provides supporting documentation to inform decisions.
- Academic Advising Support: Serves as a resource for college academic advisors and faculty advisors on student advisement of degree plan requirements for undergraduate and graduate programs. Runs queries on student registration, academic warnings, probations, and suspensions. Processes non-traditional course contracts as approved by Associate Deans. Reviews current processes and consults with the Registrar’s office, Dean, Associate Deans, and Academic Advisors to make recommendations for improvement and oversees implementation of approved changes. Maintains documents and databases, troubleshoots potential problems, and makes appropriate referrals.
- Liaison with University Offices: Works with multiple offices (e.g., Registrar, Human Resources, Graduate Studies, Financial Aid, Athletics) to stay updated and ensure Harris College meets current standards for processes.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 2+ years’ experience in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years’ experience using higher education software.
Skills
- Knowledge of curriculum and degree requirements.
- Knowledge of university programs and program planning.
- Knowledge of research techniques.
- Knowledge of NCAA student athlete compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel.

- Ability to establish and maintain databases, with an emphasis on PeopleSoft.

Physical Requirements
- Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and other printed materials.
- Able to speak clearly in conversation and general communication.
- Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone and face-to-face interactions.
- Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, reaching, flexibility, and body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, and prolonged sitting.
- Ability to lift and move objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment
Work is indoors and sedentary, subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours. The noise level is usually moderate.
