Coordinator II - After School Program
Position Information
This position functions as the clinical coordinator of mental health services and treatment provided to court-involved adolescent males and their families within a community-based group home, which is a program of the Court Services Unit of the Arlington Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. The employee is responsible for coordinating and supervising the clinical services provided by full time group home counselors, staff, clinical interns, and clinical externs as well as providing direct clinical services in the form of family therapy and group therapy. Major duties include providing and coordinating mental health services for residents and their families with a variety of presenting problems including mental health issues, family problems, probation issues, truancy, educational difficulty, and a variety of misdemeanor and felony charges. Client families often come with issues of depression, anxiety, and personality disorders, and may have issues of domestic violence, substance abuse, and a variety of relationship problems. Services provided include: initial assessment of presenting problems of the adolescent and family members; clinical consultation in the admissions process; and treatment planning. The assessment of ongoing progress and referral to other professionals for evaluation, mental health treatment, or other services is a critical function of this position.
Selection Criteria
- Minimum: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a clinical discipline such as Counseling, Psychiatric Social Work, Psychology, Art Therapy, Psychiatric Nursing, or other directly related clinical discipline, all of which required a clinical practicum involving diagnostic and treatment services, plus two years post-Master's degree experience providing clinical therapy and other mental health services, which included the application of diagnostic and treatment services.
- Substitution: Directly-related higher level clinical degrees may substitute for the Master’s degree education requirement and one year of experience. In the case of this substitution, qualifying work experience must have been gained after the acquisition of the directly related higher level clinical degree.
- Desirable: a) clinical licensure in the state of Virginia; b) experience using the Positive Peer Culture behavior modification approach; c) experience in substance abuse treatment and/or evaluation; d) experience working in a group home setting for delinquent youth; and/or e) experience in leading anger management groups or other similar behavior change groups.
Special Requirements
- A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. You will be required to provide police clearance records upon final consideration for employment;
- Clearance by the Virginia Department of Social Services Child Protective Services Central Registry;
- The applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license form the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

- Work Hours: 20 hours per week, flexible schedule of days and evenings, including a minimum of two evenings per week. Thursdays 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Schedule may change over time, according to needs. Adjustments to schedule may be required according to court, school, or on-site crisis situations.

- Paid Leave: Vacation leave is earned at the rate of four hours biweekly. Leave accrual increases every three years until eight hours of leave are earned biweekly for twelve or more years of service. Sick leave is earned at the rate of four hours biweekly. There are eleven paid holidays each year.

Employees become vested in the plan at five years of service. The County also contributes to this plan.
- For general employees, the County also contributes 4.2% of pay to a defined contribution plan (401(a)) . The County also matches your 457 contribution, up to $20 per pay period, in this plan. The 457 deferred compensation plan allows you to set aside money on either a pre-tax (457b) or post-tax (457 Roth) basis up to the IRS annual limit. New employees are automatically enrolled with a pre-tax contribution equal to 2% of your base pay.
