Summary Of Responsibilities
The ROTC Coordinator supports the development, administration, and growth of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program at Schreiner University, which operates in partnership with the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) through a crosstown agreement. This role is crucial to ensuring the success of Schreiner cadets by providing support throughout their academic and military training, including the coordination of cross-institutional communication, transportation, and support services.
Essential Functions
- Aid in the recruitment, enrollment, and retention of ROTC cadets, offering guidance and mentorship throughout their academic and military training.
- Coordinate support for ROTC activities, such as field training exercises, leadership labs, and physical fitness assessments, both on the Schreiner campus and at UTSA.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for ROTC cadets, providing personalized support navigating both military and academic requirements across multiple institutions.
- Collaborate with university departments to ensure ROTC cadets receive academic advising, career counseling, and financial aid assistance as required.
- Facilitate communication and coordination with military leadership, including ROTC cadre at UTSA.
- Support the development and execution of ROTC-related events, ceremonies, and community outreach initiatives.
- Serve as the Physical Training Officer for all students participating in the Schreiner Institute Corps of Cadets, overseeing cadet-led physical training and ensuring cadets meet physical fitness standards with applicable service regulations and institute requirements.
- Serve as a School Certifying Official (SCO) for the university, ensuring accurate processing and reporting of veteran education benefits.
- Maintain accurate records of cadet progress, training, and academic performance, ensuring compliance with military and university policies.
- Provide input on the strategic planning and growth of the ROTC program, including program assessment and improvement initiatives.
- Aid in the supervision and training of work-study students.
- Perform as a backup driver for ROTC transportation needs when the primary driver is unavailable.
Education, Experience And Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Prior military service strongly preferred, with experience as a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) or Commissioned Officer highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of military training, leadership development, and ROTC program requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
- Proven experience in program management and student support services.
- Familiarity with veteran education benefits and military culture preferred.
- Ability to manage cross-institutional relationships and support cadet success across multiple campuses.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, related insurance and good driving record.
- Some evenings and weekend work required.
