About the Role
The Coordinator for Academic Support (Student-Athlete Culture and Support Services) coordinates programs that support the holistic growth of student-athletes, focusing on leadership, life skills, career preparation, and community engagement. This position manages academic support, mental health initiatives, and compliance with NCAA regulations, bridging the gap between athletic performance and personal development.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee student-athlete leadership, career readiness, and personal development initiatives.
- Serve as the primary liaison for campus and community partnerships, and department-wide student-athlete engagement and recognition events.
- Coordinate student-athlete support initiatives for football and other assigned sport programs by collaborating with coaching staff, Academic Advocacy, and campus partners to address academic concerns, facilitate communications, and implement strategies that promote student-athlete success and a positive team culture.
- Adhere to NCAA, Conference, and Institutional guidelines, policies, and procedures, including all rules and regulations.
- Promote FAMU and the Athletics Department to students, parents, faculty, and the general public.
- Demonstrate professionalism, excellent leadership, and communication skills, including awareness of social media etiquette and the ability to work with a multicultural student population.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience; or a master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
Skills
- Knowledge of academic resources available to students.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
- Ability to represent the University in appointed areas as required.
- Knowledge of the concept, principles, and practices of management.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of office practices, procedures, and etiquette.
This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position. Successful candidates are subject to pre-employment screening, including a review of criminal records, reference checks, and verification of education. Proof of identity and employment eligibility is required within three days of employment.
