About the Role
This position assists academically at-risk student-athletes. The incumbent develops, manages, implements, and monitors strategic study programs, including mentoring and tutoring sessions for student-athletes, assesses the needs of at-risk student-athletes, and develops strategic study plans. Other responsibilities include serving as liaison between the academic coaches, academic support staff, and administrators to enhance the educational success of student-athletes; identifying learning needs of students-athletes and developing individualized support programs and services; developing and providing a variety of teaching activities, including diagnostic needs assessments, skills development, decision making, time management, etc.; coordinating mentoring programs and tutoring sessions for student-athletes and assisting in monitoring supervised study table programs designed to develop beneficial study skills; and instructing learning-disabled student-athletes on the use of a variety of assistive technology. Supervising and providing training to tutors and mentors; maintaining confidential records and other documentation; staying abreast of and assuring adherence to NCAA, SWAC, and University rules and regulations regarding position; may be required to travel and work outside regular business hours (evenings, weekends, and some holidays); ensuring all assigned tasks; complying with the department, University, SWAC Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations; and performing similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Responsibilities
- Assists academically at-risk student-athletes
- Develops, manages, implements, and monitors strategic study programs, including mentoring and tutoring sessions for student-athletes
- Affirms the needs of at-risk student-athletes and develops strategic study plans
- Serves as liaison between the academic coaches, academic support staff, and administrators to enhance the educational success of student-athletes
- Identifies learning needs of students-athletes and develops individualized support programs and services
- Develops and provides a variety of teaching activities, including diagnostic needs assessments, skills development, decision making, time management, etc.
- Coordinates and participates in assigned unique and recurring projects and programs, including planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of tutorial programs
- Determines the curriculum for tutorial trainings in compliance with the Athletic Department’s Compliance Office and NCAA
- Supervises and provides training to tutors and mentors
- Maintains confidential records and other documentation
- Stays abreast of and assures adherence to NCAA, SWAC, and University rules and regulations regarding position
- May be required to travel and work outside regular business hours (evenings, weekends, and some holidays)

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience
- Or a master's degree in appropriate area of specialization
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of career counseling and development
- Knowledge of academic resources available to students
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations
- Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously
- Develops and implements programs and services designed to meet the needs of academically at-risk student-athletes
- Coordinates and participates in assigned unique and recurring projects and programs, including planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of tutorial programs
- Determines the curriculum for tutorial trainings in compliance with the Athletic Department’s Compliance Office and NCAA
