This position is located at Ozark Tavern on Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Open to U.S. Citizens, Nationals, or those who owe allegiance to the U.S., and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a full range of simple cooking tasks, including preparing and cooking items requiring little or no processing.
  • Prepares hot cereals, concentrated or rehydrated soups, sauces, and gravies.
  • Makes cold sandwich fillings and sets up/replenishes salad bars.
  • Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, and breading.
  • Weighs, measures, assembles, and mixes ingredients according to recipes.
  • Covers, dates, and stores leftovers according to procedures.
  • Operates a variety of kitchen equipment (gas, electric, steam, microwave) and disassembles, cleans, and reassembles component parts.
  • Uses and cleans cooking utensils to measure, weigh, and process food items.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment, work areas, walk-in refrigerators, and floors.
  • Follows established sanitation procedures and ensures foods are stored at correct temperatures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
  • Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check and pre-employment checks, including a medical examination and Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card.
  • Must be willing and able to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • Must be willing and able to complete a physical and lift/carry items weighing up to 40 pounds (occasionally more with assistance).
  • Must complete a minimum of 4 hours of initial food sanitation and safety training within 30 days of employment and 4 hours of refresher training annually.
  • Must be able to operate, disassemble, and clean basic food service equipment (e.g., griddles, broilers, food grinders).
  • Must follow written and verbal instructions, including standard recipes and detailed cooking instructions.
  • Must perform basic arithmetic (e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication) to measure recipe ingredients.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to steam, fumes, odors from cooking, and extreme temperature changes (e.g., walk-in refrigerators/freezers).
  • Must stand on tile floors for extended periods, with risks of burns, cuts, and slipping on wet floors.

Physical Effort: Work involves continual standing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Must lift 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally more with assistance.

Qualifications

  • Neatness and good grooming.
  • Dependability and ability to work under pressure.
  • Work experience in preparing foods and cooking simple foods/short orders in a cafeteria, restaurant, or mess.
  • Resume must be clear, specific, and limited to two pages or less.

Highly Preferred Qualifications: Six months or more of cooking experience in a dining establishment. Applicants meeting this criterion will be referred first to the Selecting Official.
