Cook Helper/Culinary Worker

Responsibilities

  • Set up and breakdown of serving line.
  • Help keep dining and kitchen area clean and organized.
  • Notify staff of items needing replenishment and restocking.
  • Rotate perishable items at the end of the shift.
  • Serve students, staff, and guests in a pleasant, efficient, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Assist with dishes when necessary.
  • Change and empty trash receptacles.
  • Work neat and clean, in proper attire.
  • Be familiar with communication system in case of emergencies.
  • Assist with programming and activity events.
  • Perform food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding vegetables and fruits.
  • Cook meats, poultry, and seafood.
  • Bread food items.
  • Stir and strain soups and sauces.
  • Weigh or measure ingredients.
  • Carry pans, kettles, and trays of food.
  • Store foods in designated areas.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen and commons area(s).
  • Segregate and remove garbage.
  • Steam-clean or hose garbage containers.
  • Distribute supplies, utensils, and portable equipment.
  • Assist in inventory of supplies and materials.
  • Operate kitchen equipment.
  • Follow safety and sanitation rules.
  • Meet performance standards.
  • Adhere to CDSS plan, Code of Conduct, and QAP.
  • Comply with DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, and center policies.
  • Model, mentor, and monitor career success skills.
  • Help students become more employable.

Requirements

  • One to three months food service/preparation or related experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • NRA Food Service Sanitation or equivalent/Serve Safe certification.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.

Schedule

Tuesday - Saturday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM with a 1-hour lunch break.

Specific vision capabilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. Physical stamina required for a full shift of working in an industrial kitchen.
