About the role

Amity Foundation is an internationally acclaimed teaching and therapeutic community dedicated to fostering change in an environment that promotes trust, new values, responsibility, and lasting relationships. The Cookin' Our Beacon project offers a unique opportunity to work with incarcerated students, enhancing their training and experience through nutritious meal preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares all meals, ensuring they are served on time
  • Maintains sanitation, nutrition, and safety standards at all times
  • Fulfills all recipes to ensure quality and cost control
  • Works directly with the Food Service Manager in planning, preparing, and presenting three balanced meals per day
  • Assists in ordering and storing food that complies with CDPH and LA County Health Department standards
  • Follows the monthly rotation menu
  • Maintains a high standard of physical excellence in the food service dining room and kitchen
  • Trains and develops students in food service skills including cooking, food preparation, and presentation
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and organized dining room
  • Attends Community Building day activities
  • Presents meals on time according to the Community schedule
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) or actively working towards HS Diploma or GED
  • One year related culinary experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Current state driver’s license
  • ServeSafe Certification
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to maintain social, ethical, and organizational values and norms
  • Ability to build trust and confidence with staff and students
  • Respect for confidentiality

Qualifications
