Primary Responsibilities
- Identifies and reports food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus.
- Aids in the receiving, rotation, and storage of products.
- Cooks menus and prepares food in accordance with nutritional guidelines, regulations, and resident’s individual prescribed diet and food preferences.
- Presents food in an appetizing and attractive manner.
- Affords residents independence with eating by providing adaptive equipment when needed.
- Safeguards food delivery on time and in a pleasant manner.
- Visits with residents at each meal when available and ensures quality service.
- Prepares food and coordinates food service for special events as requested.
- Notifies nutrition coordinator of any malfunctioning kitchen equipment or appliances.
Regulatory Compliance and Sanitation
- Maintains compliance with local health department regulations and community policies and procedures.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
- Maintains proper storage and handling of food in accordance with infection control standards.
Communications
- Attends all regular staff meetings and required training sessions.
- Effectively communicates information pertaining to the residents on a “need to know” basis to other team members according to the community policies and procedures.
- Notifies supervisor or the clinical director if you observe a change in a resident’s condition.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Obtain/hold any local, state and/or county required food handling/sanitation licenses and/or certificates.
- Maintain a current ServSafe certificate (food services sanitation certificate) or able to participate in the food services sanitation training to become ServSafe certified.
- One (1) year job-related experience including food preparation, full-line menu items and therapeutic diets.
- Experience in cooking for large groups.
Other Requirements
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Physical Job Requirements
- To fulfill job requirements, employee must be able to perform key physical tasks for extended periods of time.
- In a typical eight-hour day, employee will:
- Stand up to two hours a day.
- Sit up to eight hours a day.
- Frequently support up to 30 pounds.
- Frequently lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently kneel, bend, and reach.
