About the role

The Virginia Beach Convention & Visitor’s Bureau develops and promotes Virginia Beach as a first-class, year-round destination. The Virginia Beach Convention Center facilitates successful experiences by offering high-quality services and amenities for conventions, trade shows, consumer shows, and community events.

Responsibilities

  • Move and place large quantities of facility equipment and furnishings such as tables, table skirting, chairs, stages, risers, steps, wall panels, coat racks, dance floors, and seating platforms in support of scheduled events.
  • Tear down facility equipment and furnishings, return all items to appropriate locations, ensure items are clean and operable, and report any damage to supervisor.
  • Perform janitorial functions including vacuuming, spot cleaning, carpet extraction, sweeping, washing walls/windows/woodwork/countertops, polishing and dusting furniture, cleaning and stocking restrooms, removing and recycling trash, high and low dusting, and cleaning loading docks, entryways, doors, elevators, escalators, and stairwells.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and proper equipment set-up during scheduled events.
  • Operate and maintain facility equipment and systems such as forklifts, operable walls, scissor lifts, telescopic seating platforms, and other event-related equipment.
  • Operate and maintain housekeeping equipment including standard and motorized vacuums, carpet cleaners, carpet sweepers, auto-scrubbers, pressure cleaners, and chemical applicators.
  • Operate and maintain material handling equipment and vehicles to support general operations.
  • Read and understand scale drawings of facility floor plans and event documents to set and prepare facility spaces according to event work orders.
  • Support Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by focusing on environmental sustainability and conservation of resources.
  • Provide face-to-face customer service to facility users and guests.
  • Use cleaning supplies and chemicals safely and efficiently.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by supervisor based on current workloads and department needs.

Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, lift, carry, and move objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications for training, work orders, and documentation.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in various conditions including outdoors, inclement weather, low light, at heights of 40 feet, and perform physical activities such as walking, standing for extended periods, repetitive bending, kneeling, stooping, pulling, crawling, lifting, dragging, moving, climbing, and working in cramped spaces.
  • Must move equipment and furnishings in a safe, efficient manner.
  • This position is not eligible for a hybrid remote work schedule.

Qualifications

  • Experience with housekeeping or custodial work.
  • Experience with in-person customer service.

Additional Skills (Desired)

  • Experience with event set-up: tables, chairs, staging, pipe and drape.
  • Experience working with a floor plan or layout for setting up events.
  • Experience with computers for emails.
  • Experience with motorized equipment.
