About the role
The Regional Controller will provide financial leadership and strategic business support across multiple operating divisions within the Southeast Florida region of Waste Pro, a leading privately-owned waste and recycling company.
Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly financial close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and management reporting.
- Analyze operating performance, profitability, productivity, labor costs, disposal expenses, fleet costs, and key financial metrics across multiple divisions.
- Partner with operational leadership to improve margins, reduce costs, maximize EBITDA, and identify opportunities for increased profitability.
- Develop and manage annual operating budgets, capital budgets, and financial forecasts.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP, corporate policies, internal controls, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Prepare executive-level financial presentations and performance reporting.
- Support mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence, financial modeling, pro forma development, and post-acquisition integration.
- Develop financial reporting tools that provide meaningful operational insight.
- Lead, mentor, and develop regional accounting personnel while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of Controller or Regional Controller experience within the waste, recycling, or environmental services industry.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with operations and executive leadership.
- Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and business ethics.
- Experience with advanced financial reporting and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with budget development, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Experience with variance analysis and profitability analysis.
- Experience with General Ledger (GL) management and account reconciliations.
- Experience with journal entry preparation and month-end/year-end close.
- Experience with cash flow analysis and financial performance reporting.
- Experience with fixed asset accounting and capital expenditure management.
- Experience with ERP and financial management systems.
- Experience with Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, financial modeling).
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience with Crystal Reports and FRx reporting.
- Experience with Financial Reporting and Business Intelligence Tools.
- Experience with Accounting Software including SAP, Great Plains, Solomon, Dossier, Tower, PeopleSoft, Ceridian, or comparable ERP systems.
- Experience with Financial Analysis and Data Interpretation.
- Experience with Internal Controls and Accounting Compliance.
- Experience with Financial Process Improvement.
