Controller

We are seeking an experienced Controller Consultant to join our team in a hybrid capacity supporting clients throughout the Reno, Nevada market. The ideal candidate is based in Reno or within a reasonable commuting distance and brings strong Controller-level experience, preferably within construction, manufacturing, or a variety of industries. This is a hands-on consulting role for an accounting professional who enjoys working directly with business owners and leadership teams, improving financial operations, and providing both day-to-day accounting oversight and higher-level financial guidance. This position is expected to begin on a part-time basis, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role as client needs and engagements grow.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting and financial operations across client engagements, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with accounting principles and company policies.
• Manage and support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, general ledger review, and financial reporting.
• Prepare and review accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, forecasts, and other financial analyses.
• Provide practical financial guidance and recommendations to business owners and leadership teams.
• Develop, improve, and implement accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and financial processes.
• Analyze financial performance, identify trends and areas of concern, and recommend opportunities for improvement.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and other financial planning activities.
• Partner with clients to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and visibility of their accounting and financial operations.
• Adapt to multiple client environments, accounting systems, industries, and business needs.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to accounting staff when appropriate.
• Stay current on accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• CPA certification preferred but not required.
• Proven experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar senior-level accounting professional.
• Experience within construction, manufacturing, or multiple industries strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, month-end close, and internal controls.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
• Proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and manage multiple client engagements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with business owners, executives, and accounting teams.
• Comfortable working in a consulting environment where priorities, industries, and client needs may vary.

Pay

• Hourly Rate: $50 to $60 per hour, based on experience.

Schedule

• Initial part-time schedule with the potential to transition to full-time based on client demand.
• Hybrid work environment with local client engagement throughout the Reno area.
