About the role

This is a hybrid role ideal for candidates located in the Tampa Bay area who can commute to our Odessa, Florida headquarters 1-2 days per week. The Controller will ensure accurate financial reporting, oversee all accounting operations and tax compliance, drive system and process improvements, and provide strategic financial guidance to leadership. Responsibilities include managing audits, acquisitions, internal controls, and treasury functions.

Responsibilities

• Financial Reporting & Analysis:
  • Oversee preparation of accurate and timely financial statements (monthly, quarterly, annual) in accordance with GAAP
  • Analyze financial results, identify trends, and provide insights to SVP of Finance
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for the executive team, board of directors, and investors
  • Manage the annual audit process and serve as the key stakeholder for external auditors
• Accounting Operations:
  • Supervise and mentor the Accounting Manager and 1-2 other accounting staff members
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and month/quarter/annual accounting and reporting
  • Oversee and approve all payroll expenditures (day-to-day led by the Accounting Manager)
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of all financial records and transactions
  • Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements
  • Maintain and review written accounting policies and procedures
• Other Key Controllership Functions:
  • Oversee the company's taxes, including sales and income taxes; serve as the key stakeholder for our tax firm and owner of Avalara for sales taxes
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets
  • Manage the company's treasury function, ensuring strong ROI on excess cash, adequate liquidity, and accurate cash projections
• Strategic Planning & Growth:
  • Lead the integration of accounting teams, records, and software before, during, and after acquisitions (max 1 per year)
  • Participate in the development of the company's budgeting and long-term financial planning
  • Assist the SVP of Finance in evaluating the financial impact of business decisions and provide recommendations
• Other Duties:
  • Own finance systems: design and implement scalable systems
  • Stay up-to-date on current accounting and financial reporting standards
  • Travel 0-10%
  • Act as a self-starter to solve problems proactively
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement and learning
  • Foster collaboration within the team and across the company
  • Prefer to own projects rather than delegate
  • Work without ego—no task is beneath anyone on a small team
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the SVP of Finance

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required
• CPA license (active or inactive)
• 7+ years of accounting experience, showing role progression
• Public accounting experience strongly preferred
• SaaS experience strongly preferred
• Advanced spreadsheet user (Excel and Google Sheets)
• Preferred software experience: QBO, Chargebee, Chargebee RevRec, Teampay, Avalara, Zuora
• Optimal candidate will likely be located in the Tampa Bay area with the ability to commute to our Odessa office 1-2 days per week

Pay

$150,000 - $170,000 per year
