Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Controls Field Engineer / QA-QC professional to provide onsite controls construction, integration, and startup support for a large, complex mission-critical facility.

This position will work closely with contractors, controls vendors, commissioning teams, and engineering/design resources to verify installations, support system checkout and startup, troubleshoot field issues, and help ensure controls systems perform in accordance with project requirements. The ideal candidate will have meaningful experience with Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and/or Building Management/Automation Systems (BMS/BAS) combined with hands-on field construction, QA/QC, startup, or commissioning experience. Experience should be applicable to building, power, or mission-critical controls environments rather than general industrial PLC programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite controls construction, QA/QC, and startup support.
  • Review controls installations against drawings, specifications, sequences, and design intent.
  • Support EPMS, BMS/BAS, and associated controls integration activities.
  • Perform or support field verification, controls checkout, functional testing, startup, and commissioning.
  • Identify installation, configuration, integration, and performance issues in the field.
  • Coordinate directly with controls contractors, equipment vendors, commissioning teams, and other trades.
  • Review controls drawings, sequences of operation, points information, and related construction documentation.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolution of controls and system-integration issues.
  • Document field observations, deficiencies, testing results, and corrective actions.
  • Resolve appropriate field issues independently while escalating design-related matters to the Engineer of Record/design team.
  • Coordinate controls interfaces with electrical, mechanical, and other building systems.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant controls, building automation, commissioning, startup, engineering, or QA/QC experience.
  • Meaningful EPMS and/or BMS/BAS experience required.
  • Experience with controls integration, checkout, functional testing, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong ability to interpret controls drawings, sequences, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Significant onsite field experience working with contractors and/or controls vendors.
  • Strong QA/QC mindset and ability to identify installation or system-performance issues.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions within assigned authority.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Data center controls experience strongly preferred; power-generation or comparable mission-critical infrastructure experience will also be considered.
  • Engineering degree preferred but not required with significant relevant field experience.
