Contract-LVN-Med-Surg Specialty

Unit: Ortho/Surgical – 5th floor of the Patient Tower at 1310 McCullough, San Antonio.

About the Unit

• 35 beds, 11 staff members
• Day shift: 1 Charge/CNC, 6 RNs, 3 PCTs, 1 unit clerk
• Night shift: 1 Charge/CNC, 6 RNs, 3 PCTs
• Patient ratios: 1:5 or 1:6
• Equipment: Computer on Wheels, Hospira pumps, iMobile phones
• EMR: MEDITECH

Responsibilities

• Care for patients undergoing typical procedures:
  • Bariatric procedures (gastric bypass, gastric sleeves)
  • Orthopedic surgeries (total hip replacements, total knee replacements)
  • General surgery (laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic appendectomies)
• Float to Med/Renal, Oncology, Med/Surg Tele, CVTS, and Telemetry as needed
• Adhere to unit guidelines and policies, including weekend requirements (4 weekend shifts per schedule or 2 full weekends)

Requirements

• Active Texas RN license
• BLS certification (required)
• Preferred certifications (candidates with these will be prioritized):
  • Bariatric Certification
  • Med/Surg Certification
  • Ortho Certification
  • ACLS

Qualifications

• Team player with a positive attitude
• Ability to follow dress code and grooming policies:
  • Scrubs: Navy top and pants
  • Nails: Clean and healthy
  • Hair: Neat, clean, no extreme styles or colors
  • Facial hair: Clean and neatly trimmed
  • Tattoos: Covered whenever possible; exceptions addressed individually
  • Piercings: Only ear piercings visible; others prohibited
